Health shops country wide stock a range of earth friendly products- let us know your favourite spots and why.
CHAIN STORES:
Dischem
Dischem’s usually stock some earth friendly brands such as African Extracts, Nature’s Gate and African Organics, but we do find that they are a bit inconsistent so your favourite product isn’t always guaranteed. Dischem also stocks it’s own range of Eco Home cleaning products. They aren’t consistently available in stores, but you can buy them online from http://dischem.co.za/brands/637/eco-home.
Pick n Pay
Certain stores are also known to stock Earth Sap shampoos and body washes. Pick n Pay has their own, well priced, range of green cleaning products (but the lack a laundry detergent) which can be bought in store or through their online shop http://shop.pnp.co.za.
Woolworths
Woolies has their own range of ‘earth friendly” products which is very diverse. From dishwasher pods, to laundry liquid, to hand soaps, face washes and creams. They also have a whole range of baby products. Woolworth’s own brand of make-up is endorsed by Beauty Without Cruelty.
These can usually be found in store (the bigger stores stock more) or online www.woolworths.co.za.
NOT ALL GOOD OR BAD:
Certain chain stores such as LUSH and The Body Shop claim to be more conscious, which is great, but don’t just assume that all their products tick all the boxes. Different ranges have different focuses- be it fair trade, sustainably harvested etc. so just be sure to read the label on each product before deciding to buy.
LUSH Stores
LUSH is the home to handmade cosmetics that are made from vegetarian ingredients, don’t test on animals and are packaged in recyclable packaging! It’s the place to buy quirky conscious gifts. Be warned though their products are not all vegan and may have less than ideal ingredients such as parabens or fragrance. So check the packaging on each item.
They have stores in major shopping centers in JHB, Durban and Capte Town. To find out where, or to buy online go to https://www.lush.co.za.
The Body Shop
The Body Shop’s products tend not to be biodegradable or eco-friendly but they are conscious about where their ingredients are sourced from. They are also very aware of their impact on the environment in terms of packaging and energy use etc in their stores- for more information on their commitments go to http://www.thebodyshop.co.za/.
ONLINE STORES:
Wellness Warehouse
(Online shopping or there are stores in Johannesburg and Cape Town )

Faithful to Nature (FTN) is a wonderful online store, based in Cape Town. FTN is where we started buying our eco-friendly products from as they stock an incredibly diverse range of products, are very efficient (delivery within a few days) and customers rate and review products so you can get an idea of how well they work, before you buy. Also great for more obscure things like eco-friendly makeups and gifts. Go to their site below to check it out.
