Hi! We’re Zoë, Louise and Romy – three happy-go-lucky Joburg girls who love all things green and environmentally friendly. We’ve decided to embark on a journey to spread some green loving tips to anyone who might be interested in making their homes a little greener, their lives a little healthier and the environment a little happier.
The three of us have been fortunate enough to study and work in the environmental field, each with a master’s degree in varying environmental disciplines and all with a few years of environmental consulting experience behind us.
Through this blog we will be sharing our knowledge and our passion to help you become a little more aware of the ethical and environmental impacts of your everyday products and services. By providing you with a little added insight we hope to help you make more informed decisions and wiser choices about the products you use and consume, for a healthier living that benefits you and the environment.
You may decide that some causes are worthier than others, which is good and we feel the same way! When it comes to going green, there are so many things you can do, and that can seem overwhelming! So our motto is: every little bit helps!
We’re here to show you that living a greener lifestyle is easy and it doesn’t have to involve radical changes to your everyday routine! We are also here to learn from you and your experiences, so please feel free to share them with us! We hope to challenge conventional mindsets and promote a healthier way of living that doesn’t cost the earth!
I’m Romy and I run my own mapping (GIS) and environmental consultancy in Joburg. I have an honours degree in Environment, Ecology and Conservation and a master’s degree in Geography and Environmental Studies. I am passionate about conservation and protecting our wildlife. I love being outdoors, the more remote the better, and I am happiest in my rooftop tent in Africa’s wild places. I enjoy birding, indigenous gardening (especially growing trees) and I am always looking for initiatives that support disadvantaged communities.
I believe that with a little bit of effort we can reduce the footprint we leave on our beautiful planet, learn to live in harmony with the natural world and support local people and communities along the way.
I’m Louise and I am an environmental scientist. I believe that our earth is worth fighting for and I have always had a deep rooted drive to help our beautiful planet wherever I can; while at the same time to live a simple and healthy life. I completed a master’s degree in Environmental Science and an honours degree in Applied Chemistry.
My greatest treasures are my husband Gareth, and our fur babies, Twix and Tastic, who we share our little “green” home with. I am a keen scuba diver and have completed over 50 dives most of which were during my stay in the Seychelles where I volunteered on a marine conservation project. I am also really passionate about the microbiome and the link between our gut health, mental and general wellbeing.
I’m Zoё – lover of all things green, environmental and water related! Water conservation and management is my passion. I completed my master’s in Hydrology and Business Management with the aim of getting involved in the water sector in order to change the way we think, use and save water in South Africa. I am particularly focussed on working towards ensuring each and every South African has access to clean drinking water and formal sanitation.
I grew up in Joburg and am currently working as a hydrogeologist for the Department of Water and Sanitation, Upper Vaal Catchment Management Agency. I enjoy spending time in the berg, bush or at the beach, appreciating our beautiful land and all it has to offer. I spend my free time reading, gardening, baking and hanging out with friends and family.
