I really love the tropical palm leaf trend at the moment and what better way to bring some vibrant and fresh greenery into your home.
Although cut flowers are attractive they can be quite pricey and they don’t last very long. The beauty of using foliage as a decoration in your home is that the leaves are long lasting (some can last over 4 weeks), there are many different shapes and sizes to choose from and leaves costs nothing as you can gather them from the garden.
Some leaves that make for good decorations include: cycads, strelitzia, elephant’s ear, fan palms, banana plants and delicious monsters (philodendron).
It is easy and simple to create a tropical leaf arrangement. Simply cut off your chosen frond or bunch of leaves, give them a quick rinse and place the leaves in a clean vase, pretty jug or up-cycled jar. Fill with some water and if you have some plant food you can add some to the water (this will make the leaves last even longer). You can change the water every few days if required.
Here are some example decor pieces that I put together.
